Sample Member Questions to be Covered

General Security

  • With the cutbacks on the DPD by the City Council, it seems crime is at an alarming increase downtown.
  • Have the meetings with business and a few of the City Council Members made any difference for DPD?
  • How can we support you?

    Protests

  • What are they doing to prepare for civil unrest after the election? Does DPD anticipate protests to be similar to the ones we saw in May/June downtown?
  • When do they expect to see protests, if at all?
  • How will they share information with the public if protests start to occur; i.e., with the demonstrations for George Floyd, we were all caught off guard.
  • What can we, as property managers, do to prepare?
  • Curious whether DPD is formally recommending properties install protection/barricades or if they are willing to take a position at all on that.  It obviously does not send a very welcoming message to our tenants when we board up the building.  I personally would feel more comfortable taking the step of boarding up only if DPD is specifically making that recommendation.
  • How is DPD planning to staff up around elections to anticipate civil unrest?
  • What should we be directing our security staff to do/coordinate with to ensure that our teams are in the loop and are connected to other buildings in the city?
  • Are there specific areas that DPD anticipates will be hot spots (I’m sure the usual - capital building, federal building, senator’s offices, Civic Center, Webb Building, DPD District 6 station, Union Station…)? I just want to be prepared across all of our teams so that we can also ensure we are supporting our buildings that may be closer to potential hot spots
  • How can we support in advance of election day? Training for building security, space for officers, etc.
