The 2011 legislative calendar is full of issues on the local,
state and national levels that are crucial to BOMA members.
In Congress, issues include supporting legislation to permanently
reduce the timeline for depreciating leasehold improvements to 15 years
and supporting further extension or make permanent the reduced rate
on capital gains. BOMA wants to maintain current law that
taxes "carried interest" as a capital gain and opposes efforts
to change the tax code to require it to be taxed as ordinary
income. BOMA also supports legislation that promotes energy efficiency
retrofits through voluntary incentive programs and opposes legislation
that would erode the consensus process for model building code
development.
At the state level during the 2011 Legislative
session, BOMA successfully opposed efforts to pass a mandated
energy usage disclosure bill. Because of the current economic crisis,
BOMA is also monitoring any efforts to increase fees or taxes for BOMA
members. At the local jurisdiction level, we consistently work
on codes, regulations and other issues.
Now is the time to get involved and get energized! Advocacy is a
contact sport: legislators at all level want and need to hear from their
constituents, and BOMA needs your help to represent your
industry. Donate to
BOMAPAC both at the federal land state levels, call your
legislators, visit their local offices, use the
BOMA Legislative Action Center and write a letter or email.
Have your voice be heard by those who represent you.
